Quick Start Guide

Electronic gadgets often come with a Quick Start Guide, also known as, “If you won’t read the instruction manual, at least read this one page, you lazy bum, before you break something.”

SO... one of our riders gave us this great idea: A Quick Start Guide. If you don’t want to read all of this lovely yet annoying web site, here’s the minimum you need to know to have fun on the ride*

When Is the Ride?

Friday August 2, 2024 -- Sunday August 4, 2024.

Directions

Directions to the Campus Center Hotel, the Deluxe Dorms, and the Standard Dorms are all right here.

Our start line is outside the Deluxe Dorms.

The office opens on Friday August 2nd at noon.

Friday August 2nd

We have two departures today from Manhattan to UMass for those who want a lift -- a morning run and then again in the evening.

7:00 a.m.

If you are taking our morning transport from NYC to The Farm Ride meet us at our NEW location:

Between W. 34th Street and W. 35th Street on the east side of 12th Avenue.

Look for our vans and bike trucks.

You should be dressed, fed, with your bike and luggage, ready to go.

We will stop along the way for bathroom breaks and snacks, of course.

8:00 a.m.

We leave NYC for Manhattan at 8 a.m. sharp.  (That's why we ask you to arrive earlier, so we have time to load up your bike and luggage).

2:3 p.m.

There's a leisurely 21-mile ride this day including a stop for ice cream.

Meet at 2:30 p.m. in front of North Dorm C -- The Deluxe Dorms with your bike, tires pumped, water bottles filled, dressed, 100% ready to ride.

Pay for your own ice cream; otherwise this ride is free.

5:30 p.m.

If you are taking our afternoon transport from NYC to The Farm Ride meet us here:

Between W. 34th Street and W. 35th Street on the east side of 12th. (See map above).

Look for our vans and bike truck.

You should be dressed, fed, with your bike and luggage, ready to go.

We will stop along the way for bathroom breaks and snacks, of course.

We depart at 6:30 p.m. sharp. (That's why we ask you to arrive earlier, so we have time to load your bike and luggage.)

6:00 p.m.

Gather in front of North Dorm C -- The Deluxe Dorms for a short bike ride to the UMass dining commons -- voted #1 in the country by The Princeton Review year after year in a row. Pay for your own dinner -- cash or credit card. BRING YOUR BIKE LOCK WITH YOU! If you went on the afternoon ice cream ride (above) you'll be back in plenty of time for dinner.

Saturday August 3rd - The main Farm Ride day

8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Meet at the start line in the Deluxe Dorms parking lot for light breakfast and coffee.

Start to pedal whenever you're ready.

NOTE: One of my favorite parts of this ride is visiting Herrell's Ice Cream, where you get a free cone or dish. They don't open until noon, and that means that if you start early and rock hard, you will get there before they open. Please plan accordingly.

The escorted version of the 100-mile route will meet at 8 a.m. and depart at 8:30 a.m.

If you want to do the optional escorted version of the 70-or 25-mile route, they meet at 8:30 a.m. and depart at 9:00 a.m., so show up earlier so you'll have time to grab some breakfast before you start.

8:00 p.m. -- The Saturday Night Dorm Party begins in the Deluxe Dorms.

Sunday August 4th

8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Meet at the start line for light breakfast.

Start to pedal whenever you're ready.

If you want to do the optional escorted version of the 40-mile route, it departs at 9:00 a.m., so show up earlier so you'll have time to grab some breakfast before you start.
